Allow me to introduce myself: I'm José (Dutch native speaker) and I am a partner in a husband-and-wife translating team and we translate from Dutch to English and from English to Dutch. Steve (English native speaker) and I work together. This means we can tap each other’s brains for difficult work and it guarantees a high-quality output.
We have been translating for more than 8 years and have a great deal of experience working with many types of text. However, we try to avoid medical texts and overly complex legal texts (employment contracts and terms and conditions are a piece of cake though). Languages have always been my passion. I grew up with a French speaking mom and a Dutch speaking dad. This makes me full bilingual in French and Dutch. Languages were my favorite subject at school.
I loved discovering new languages. When I was 9 years old I started taking English courses, I wanted to be able to speak and write English as quickly as possible. Once in high school, I mastered the English language perfectly. My English skills only improved with the courses I received at school. In addition to English courses, I also took German courses.
After high school, I decided to get my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Throughout my career, I’ve started translating (mostly) medical documents for my employer. I also read and improved the theses for students and Power Point presentations for colleagues. This has rekindled my passion for languages and planted the seed for becoming a freelance translator-proofreader.
