Well, I started here as an assistant accountant. Doing the accounting. I do everything here at the museum, from cleaning, to giving tours, helping tourists, serving food.

Esta historia me descubrió durante la filmación de un documental en el que trabaje hace un par de meses, el tema era el rito de iniciación de los tohono o'odham (gente del desierto) una etnia que habita al suroeste de América del Norte, entre Estados Unidos y México.

Este rito consiste en llevar a los integrantes mas jóvenes de la tribu en una peregrinación por el desierto, sus ancestros recorrían una ruta especifica desde California hasta Sonora para obtener sal; Al regresar de este viaje y después de enfrentar el desierto el joven se convertía en hombre a los ojos de la tribu. Hoy en día la tradición continua.

En esa ocasión me asistía un chico de origen europeo, me pareció fascinante el choque cultural y emocional que sucedía en su interior al ver el complicado entramado de la frontera entre México y estados unidos, por eso decidí que le protagonista de esta película debía ser un joven de un pueblo pequeño de Alemania.

Mi trabajo en cine siempre parte del punto de vista del personaje, sus capas, su recorrido emocional, trato de hacer un mapa con todo lo que este a mi alcance para poder definir el punto de vista desde donde se cuenta la historia.

While working for a couple of months filming a documentary, I came upon stories concerning a rite of passage practiced by the Tohono O’odham (People of the Desert), a tribe that inhabits the southwestern region of North America between the United States and Mexico.

The rite consists of taking the youngest male members of the tribe on a pilgrimage through the desert on a specific route from California to Sonora that their ancestors travelled to harvest salt. After returning from this journey and confronting the desert, the boy becomes a man in the eyes of the tribe. This tradition continues to this day.

While filming, I was assisted by a young European man and I was fascinated by the culture shock that he experienced while witnessing the complex dynamics of the United States-Mexico border. For this reason, I decided that the protagonist of this film would be a young man from a small village in Germany.

My work in film has always been character driven, exploring his/her point of view, interior life and emotional journey, trying to map whatever is in my reach in order to determine the point of view through which to tell the story.

Los 50 integrantes del proyecto, representantes de las tres culturas de la región: menonita, mestiza, y rarámuri, contaron sus historias de encuentros transculturales del pasado y proveyeron ejemplos de colaboración intercultural y transcultural actual. Con respecto a la sororidad intercultural específicamente, según a las entrevistadas y los entrevistados, aunque las comunidades menonitas tradicionales de Chihuahua son patriarcales y jerárquicas en su organización eclesiástica, laboral, y social, las mujeres menonitas conservadoras y liberales en las colonias sureñas de Chihuahua usan sus relaciones familiares y sociales para construir redes de colaboración para realizar proyectos de desarrollo social en sus comunidades locales y con las comunidades mestizas y el pueblo rarámuri.

The 50 project participants, representatives from the three cultures in the region: Mennonite, Mestizo, and Rarámuri, told their stories of cross-cultural encounters, past and present and provided examples of present day cross-cultural and transcultural collaboration. Concerning intercultural women’s solidarity specifically, according to the interviewees, although traditional Mennonite communities are patriarchal and hierarchical in their ecclesiastical, labor, and social organization, conservative and liberal Mennonite women in the southern Mennonite colonies of Chihuahua use their family and social relationships to create networks of collaboration to complete social development projects in their local communities and with Mestizo communities and the Pueblo Rarámuri.

En las comunidades conservadoras mi acceso fue gracias a mi cargo como funcionaria del Gobierno del Estado y esta relación, no obstante, el transcurrir de los años, fue acotada, limitada y determinada por sus autoridades hombres.

In the conservative communities my access was thanks to my position as a representative of the state government, but this relationship; however, over the years, was bounded, limited, and determined by the their male authorities.
