I'm Kris Thielemans, a bilingual translator with more than 20 years experience translating, localising, editing, and writing in English and Dutch (Flemish). Due to my background as an MA in philosophy and art history, I've specialised in the translation of academic work in the humanities and social sciences. I’ve also enjoyed writing and translating for artists and art projects, and about games and gaming. My favourite literary genres are fantasy and science fiction.
I am a freelance Hebrew-English translator and editor at the Tel Aviv Review of Books. I hold an M.Phil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, and I am also a qualified tour guide.
I am a state-certified translator and have been translating for over 40 years. I am an American and have also lived and been educated in England (so I speak "both" versions of English). I have been living in Germany for about 40 years, so am fully fluent in the German language and know the culture and business vernacular extremely well. I studied history and political science and served in the military as an officer for many years and have worked in the industrial sector - so these are the areas with which I am very familiar.
I have over a decade of experience in proofreading English texts and translating all kinds of documents between Spanish and English, especially scientific articles (more than 100 to date), legal documents, tour packages, dissertations & essays.
I first went to Ecuador in 2006 and from 2011 lived there for 7 continuous years, 6 in the Amazon Region and 1 in Quito. I studied Spanish and Italian at University and have a lifelong passion for languages and history.
